Grevy's Zebra and and Speke's Gazelle are endangered species
The Horn of Africa is located in Africa, but is included in the countries of Somalia, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Yemen, and Oman but also covers the Rift Valley, Xeric bush lands of northeastern Kenya, and parts of the Arabian Peninsula.
If nothing is done to help protect the Horn of Africa, many of the endemic species will go extinct, just like many of the other species that used to help occupy the population that is slowly diminishing.

- It covers more than 1.5 million square kilometers
- Dominant flora: Acacia-Commiphora bushland
- "Other flora: evergreen bushland, shrub land, dry evergreen forest and woodland, semi-desert grassland, and low growing dune and rock vegetation (Conservation International)."
- Just over half of the plants are endemic, or native/restricted to an area
- Northern Somalia and the Socotra Archipelago have many endemic species
- 13/60 endemic genera are confined to the archipelago
- Barbeyaceae: Barbeya oleoides
- Dirachmaceae: Dirachma socotrana (Socotra) and Dirachma Somalensis (Somalia)
- Humans have a major impact; about 5% of the habitat is in pristine condition
- Uncontrolled charcoal production has a huge impact in Somalia
- Overgrazing by camels, goats, and sheep results in major degradation
- 5,000 species of vascular plants, 697 of birds, 220 of mammals, 285 of reptiles, 30 of amphibians, and 100 of freshwater fishes.
- 2,750 species of vascular plants
- 24 species of birds
- 20 species of mammals
- 90 species of reptiles
- 6 species of amphibians
- 10 species of freshwater fish
- Horn of Africa has 41 protected areas that cover about 9% of the land.
- The Jebel Samhan National Nature Reserve is home to a population of endangered subspecies of Arabian leopards.
- One of the problems about trying to protect the Horn of Africa is that there isn't enough knowledge or funding to help save more than a little bit of it.
- WildCare Institute's Center for Conservation was another form of protection for endangered animals such as Grevy's zebra, mountain nyala, Speke's gazelle, and the Ethiopian wolf
If nothing is done to help protect the Horn of Africa, many of the endemic species will go extinct, just like many of the other species that used to help occupy the population that is slowly diminishing.
